Grand Opera House
Designed by Frank Matcham and opened on the 23rd December 1895, the Grand Opera House is one of Belfast's oldest and most well loved theatres. In the 1970's the Theatre was set for demolition but was saved through a campaign launched by the Ulster Architectural Heritage Society and was the first building in Northern Ireland to be listed.
The focus of this piece is the iconic ornately detailed, stone carved, pedimental gable found on the Great Victoria street elevation, above the main entrance.
