Designed by Architect Joseph Vincent Downes, the Bank of Ireland building was constructed in 1929-30 and occupies a prominent corner site, closing the vista along Belfast's Royal Avenue. 

Finished in Portland limestone, the building is characterised by the elegant vertical stepped façade and chamfered central tower. It is one of the finest examples of the Art-Deco style in Northern Ireland.
